Katharina Wilbrandt

Hallo! Mein Name ist Katharina, ich bin 18 Jahre alt und wohne in Dortmund. Im August dieses Jahres werde ich als Volontärin für „Brass for Peace“ nach Palästina gehen.

Wenn Du meine ehemaligen Mitschüler oder meine Freunde fragen würdest „Weißt du was Kathi grade macht?“, würdest Du definitiv eine Antwort bekommen in der „Posaune“, „Musik“ oder „Kirche“ drin vorkommt. Und das wäre richtig.

Mit Musik angefangen habe ich als kleines Kind bei der musikalischen Früherziehung in der Musikschule. Mein erstes richtiges Instrument war danach die Blockflöte. In der 2. Klasse machte der Posaunenchor in unserer Grundschule Werbung für neue Jungbläser und da meine Schwester durfte, wollte ich natürlich auch. Und so kam es dazu, dass ich mit 7 Jahren mit Posaune anfing. Ich habe schnell gemerkt, dass ich die Posaune besser fand als die Blockflöte, wobei das wahrscheinlich hauptsächlich daran lag, dass ich den Violinschlüssel damals nicht lesen konnte…
Nun spiele ich in mehreren Orchestern und Ensembles Posaune und bekomme auch Klavier und Orgel Unterricht. Außerdem singe ich seit vielen Jahren in dem Kirchenchor der Nachbargemeinde. Von Klassik bis Jazz – ich höre und mache einfach alles gerne!
Letztes Jahr im Sommer habe ich die Prüfung für Posaunenchorleitung gemacht, die von der evangelischen Kirche Westfalen angeboten wird. „Mein“ Posaunenchor hat mich seitdem als stellvertretende Chorleiterin akquiriert.

2017 habe ich die Jugendleiterausbildung (Juleica) der ev. Kirche abgeschlossen. Aber schon seit meiner eigenen Konfirmation 2014 bin ich mit im Konf-ex Team, welches zusammen mit dem Pfarrer den Konfi Unterricht macht.

Von jung bis alt, von Erfahren bis Anfänger. Egal, ob man sich erst seit 3 Tagen oder schon seit 3 Jahren kennt oder ob man die gleiche Sprache spricht. Egal, ob Trompete oder Posaune!!! Jeder ist so, wie er ist. Musik verbindet, räumt jegliche Vorurteile fort und verbreitet Freude!
In diesem Sinne möchte mich bei meiner Familie und meinen Freunden bedanken, dass ihr mich in meinem Leben immer unterstützt habt und mich einfach habt machen lassen. Der Dank gilt auch den Menschen, die ich während der ganzen Fahrten und Lehrgänge kennengelernt habe, ich habe viel von Euch gelernt. Danke!

Ich bin sehr froh, dass ich mich für das Jahr in Palästina entschieden habe. Ich freue mich auf das gemeinsame Musizieren, die vielen neuen Dinge, die ich erleben werde und bin gespannt, wie sich alles ergeben wird. Das wird echt gut!

Hello! My name is Katharina, I’m 18 years old and I’m living in Dortmund. This year in August I’ll go as a volunteer for “Brass for Peace” to Palestine.

If you’d ask my former schoolmates or my friends “Do you know what Kathi is doing?”, you’ll definitely get an answer with the words “trombone”, “music” or “church” in it. And this would be true.

I took my first steps with music, when I was a young kid, with the musically early education in the school of music. My first proper instrument was the recorder. In the second class the trombone choir came to my school and was recruiting new children for the choir. My sister was allowed to go, and then I certainly wanted too. And it got so, that I was starting to play the trombone when I was 7 years old. I realized fast, that I like the trombone more than the recorder, whereby the only reason for this was probably, that I couldn’t read the G clef…
Now I’m playing in several orchestras and ensembles on my trombone and taking piano and organ lessons too. Aside from that I’m singing in the choir of my neighbor parish. From classic to jazz – I love it, to play and to hear! 
Last summer I did the trombone choir conductor-exam, which is provided from the Evangelical Church of Westfalen. Since that, “my” trombone choir acquired me as assistant choral conductor.

In 2017 I did the youth leader apprenticeship (Juleica) of the evangelical church. But since my own confirmation in 2014 I’m already a teamer in the “Konf-ex Team”, which is managing together with the parson the confirmation lessons.

From young to old, doesn’t matter whether you are beginner or experienced. Doesn’t matter, whether you’re knowing someone for three days or three years or whether you’re speaking the same language. Doesn’t matter whether trumpet or trombone!!! Everyone is as he is. Music is connecting, is putting away any prejudices and is spreading joy.
With this in my mind, I want to thank my family and my friends, that you were supporting me in every time and that you led me be like I am. The same holds true for the people I met on the journeys and seminars, I learned much from you. Thank you!

I’m very happy, that I’ve decided to go to Palestine for one year. I’m looking forward to playing music together, to the many new things that I’m going to experience and I’m curious to see how everything turns out. It’ll be great!
