Tamara Jakob

Hallo! Mein Name ist Tamara, ich bin 18 Jahre alt und komme aus Karlsruhe. Ich mache dieses Jahr mein Abitur und werde anschließend ein Jahr als Volontärin für „Brass for Peace“ in Palästina verbringen.

Was mich für dieses Jahr antreibt, ist die Möglichkeit sich komplett dem Musizieren zu widmen und nebenbei ein unbekanntes Land kennenzulernen.

Als Jüngste von drei Geschwistern wurde ich in eine Blechbläserfamilie hineingeboren, wo jeder regelmäßig in die Posaunenchorprobe geht.
Da ich nun auch mitspielen wollte, lernte ich mit 8 Jahren Trompete. Ich bekam zu der Zeit auch schon Klavierunterricht, aber auch wenn ich immer viel Freude am Klavier spielen habe, stellte sich schnell heraus, dass die Trompete mein bevorzugtes Instrument ist. Nachdem ich mich erstmals auf meinen ersten Lehrgang getraut habe, ließ ich mir schon bald nur noch ungern einen entgehen, was besonders dem gemeinsamen Lernen in einer tollen Gemeinschaft verschuldet war. Als ich aufs Gymnasium kam, fing ich an, in einer der Schulbigbands zu spielen, was mir neben der Posaunenchorwelt und dem klassischen Unterricht auch den Zugang zum Jazz ermöglichte und ich mich dadurch auch einige Zeit im Jazz Piano übte. Das Wichtigste ist, immer mit viel Motivation und Freude dabei zu sein, was durch die Musik leicht ermöglicht wird. Auch im Jugendposaunenchor Südbaden, in dem ich seit 2017 mitspiele, treffen wir uns und musizieren gemeinsam mit viel Engagement, um ein schönes Konzert auf die Beine zu stellen. Ob in Bigband, Posaunenchor oder anderen Ensembles, gemeinsam zu spielen, macht immer Spaß.

Dies möchte ich nun auch von der anderen Seite erleben und begebe mich mit Brass for Peace auf die lehrende, Musik verbreitende und vermittelnde Seite. Ich besuchte schon einige Chorleiterlehrgänge, allerdings noch ohne das Wissen, dass ich tatsächlich nach Palästina gehen und dies in die Realität umsetzen werde.

Wie es nach diesem Jahr weitergeht, ist bei mir noch offen. Fest steht allerdings, dass ich das Musizieren auf jeden Fall beibehalten werde, ob ich es nun mit einem Studium verbinde oder nicht.

Umso mehr freue mich auf das nächste Jahr in Palästina, wo ich vor neuen Aufgaben gestellt, neue Freunde und Musikbegeisterte kennenlernen und in eine andere Welt eintauchen werde. In dem Sinne bin ich sehr dankbar, dass mir gemeinsam mit Karin diese Chance ermöglicht wird.

Hi! My name is Tamara, I’m 18 years old and I’m from Karlsruhe. Currently I am learning for my A levels which I will write this year. After that I’ll go to Palestine where I’ll work as a volunteer for “Brass for Peace” and where I get the opportunity to make music for a whole year while getting to know an unknown country.

Music is already playing an important role in my life. I am the youngest of three siblings and was born into a family in which every member is playing a brass instrument. So, when I was 8 years old I started to play the trumpet because I admired them playing the instruments and wanted to play with them together. Two years before that I also began to play the piano but I quickly realized that trumpet is my preferred instrument.

Once I started to go to brass seminars and to play together with other young trombone choir members, I joined nearly every brass related course that I could attend. In 5th grade I started to play in the big band of my school where I learned much about Jazz beside of trombone choir and classical lessons. This was one of the reasons why I wanted to learn more about Jazz for that I began to play jazz piano. Since 2017, I am also a member of the youth trombone choir of South Baden.

I think the most important thing is to be motivated and to make music with lots of joy. Whether playing in the big band, trombone choir or other ensembles, I very much enjoy all of it because you can make music together. That is what I am going to discover from a different view: organising, teaching and spreading music with Brass for Peace. I already participated in choir conducting seminars but at that moment I didn’t know that I would actually go to Palestine and realize it.

I am not sure yet what I am going to do in the future. But whether I connect music with my studies or not, there is no doubt that I will always make music.

I am looking forward to the next year in Palestine which will bring new tasks, new friends, a whole new world with a lot of music and I am very thankful for this opportunity to discover Palestine.
